Grace 01

Miss Mary Grace A.Rubio

 1. Please tell me about yourself.

I am Mary Grace A. Rubio, 23 years old, and I am currently an MS Mechanical and Energy Engineering student in Kasetsart University Kamphaeng Saen Campus. I graduated from the University of the Philippines Los Baños with a degree in BS Agricultural Engineering. Afterwards, I went to work as a researcher in my university regarding the utilization of agricultural by-products into nanomaterial for nanotechnology applications.

I am a very outgoing person. I love to travel, discover and learn new things; make new friends, acquaintances, and experience new cultures. I like reading books during my past time especially novels but writing is my first love because that is my way of expressing myself. It has always been my dream to become an engineer that was why I chose this profession but it took me patience, hard work and determination to succeed. I am used to working under pressure and I am always looking forward to new opportunities that would brought about improvement for myself and my career. I am a family-oriented person and I always make them my priority. I also do believe that in everything I do I have a purpose and that whatever purpose I have in life I should make the most out of it.

2. Why did you apply to study here?

Grace 03          I was informed by a friend of mine about the opportunity to study in Thailand with a scholarship. It has always been my plan to further my studies in engineering and to do that is to have an MS degree. But the thing that sparked my interest the most with the scholarship offer is the similarity of the study being offered to my undergraduate manuscript. I have a very keen interest on energy engineering especially about renewable resources energy. The Philippines, being an agricultural country, has a lot of agricultural by-products that can be utilized to generate electricity if given the proper technology. As an agricultural engineering graduate, it is our duty to make our farms become more productive and efficient. Of course, you can only do this if you are equipped with in-depth knowledge about energy engineering resources and technologies. And I believe to enable yourself to learn that means exposing yourself on new things in different aspects. Furthermore, I think that KU provides with their utmost ability the proper facilities and knowledge necessary for their students to equip.

3. What do you think about our faculty?Grace 02

The department of mechanical engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Kamphaeng Saen has been very accommodating and welcoming to me as a foreign student. They have good facilities and materials available for the students whenever they need which amazed me. I think that this learning environment entices the students to become more educated and familiar with their field. They also have very approachable staff and personnel. I also firmly believe that they have very good teachers as well as researchers. They entertain questions and answers them but still gives room for the students to think for themselves and encourage new ideas. They encourage their students to become competent in their own fields and be best that they can be.

4. What are your future plans?

After completing my MS degree, I would like to go back to the Philippines and pursue a career in energy engineering and do research. But if given the opportunity to teach in my Alma Matter, I would most likely grab it. I would love to share the knowledge I learned here and cite the developments you have achieved inspiring them to also move forward. Then after two or maybe three years of working, I would like to further my studies and have a doctorate degree.
